Starting
a team journey with a blindfold lead develops trust, confidence and
open communication between participants and adds a little more fun and
challenge to a walk through the woods.
|
The
blindfold lead may end close to the top of a crag where we train half
your team to abseil and the other half to operate the safety rope
and provide emotional support for your colleagues.
Your
team challenge is then to combine your newfound skills to enable your
whole team to descend over the crag.
You
don't necessarily have to keep the blindfold on but I don't think
anyone told this abseiler! There's always a joker....

The
next stage of this journey involves open, or Canadian canoes. They
areimmensely stable, easy to paddle 2-up, and carry a large load of
equipment so we don't have to rough it too much if we're lunching
on St Herbert's Island.
We
often pole two canoes together to form a catamaran-type craft which
is virtually impossible to turn over, very manoeuvrable and an excellent
vehicle for windy-weather paddling and for those more anxious about
being on the lake.
|
We
occasionally use sea kayaks , which are great for paddling long distances
rapidly and easily in the Lake District - this team is off to find
lunch, which is located at a remote location on Derwentwater.
These
kayaks are considerably more stable than the river/slalom kayaks normally
used, they have a rudder which keeps you in a straight line and plenty
of storage space for your lunch.
|
 |
 |
You
can eat squashed sandwiches if you like - you'll not starve - but
we don't see the point.
We'll
provide coolbox or barbecue lunches and your challenge is to create
an amazing al fresco feast for your team.
This
one's on St Herbert's Island on Derwentwater in the Lake District though
almost any location will be inspirational!
|
This
one's at Millican Dalton's Cave in Borrowdale where the team poached
Borrowdale trout in lemon and thyme, with rocket salad and coleslaw,
chicken marinated in coriander and chilli, corn a la carbon followed
by slightly alcoholic chocolate brandy bananas.
Why
rough it?

|
One
of our most favoured team challenges is a ghyll scramble, requiring
hand-to-hand support, a playful approach and good team communication
as you scramble through the gorge amongst huge boulders, climbing waterfalls
and wading through pools.
This
is our most popular inclusive outdoor team challenge - anyone can do
it and feedback from our clients is invariably that this is a powerful
experrience!
|
Another
popular challenge, not usually so wet, involves the team in peer coaching
leading to an archery competition.
We
give the team some basic instruction followed by 45 minutes of practice
whilst you're coached by your fellow team members then we ask you to
set a team or sub-team target for the ensuing competition.
We
use sighted, composite take-down bows paired with carbon arrows allowing
participants to feel real achievement as their accuracy and score improves.
|

|
 |
Raft
building is our most popular water-based competitive team challenge
and involves constructing a raft with a little technical training,
followed by a speed and manoeuvrability race.
This
one works quite well!
|
In
terms of location, we have to face it; there is no finer place than
the Lake District for an outdoor event - this is God's own back yard,
and mine! We invite your team to experience the most inspirational outdoor
environment in the UK!
